Got this one on Kindle as it was significantly cheaper than the print version and I couldn’t get to a shop to pick it up at the time and just wanted a read. And it didn’t disappoint!
Follows Alec de Payns as he goes about balancing his work as an employee of the DGSE with his private life as a family man as he tries to thwart a modern terror attack on modern day Paris.
The marketing for this one revolves around its authenticity to real-world spy craft. I can’t verify if that’s true myself, but I loved reading the little habits of the covert, namely putting followers “to sleep” (doesn’t mean what it sounds like) and the three-point alignment – which I sometimes kind of do in my hotel rooms now to know if housekeeping has been (hey, I am a very tidy guest!).
Long and the short of it, this is top shelf stuff. And if it is as authentic as it’s billed to be, then holy hell! The stuff that goes on we probably have no idea about!
2024 update: de Payns now has a sequel – Dark Arena!
I’ll be diving in.
Recommend. 👍🏻
